Exporting to ILPA/AIMA Standard Templates

Response360 supports exporting your completed questionnaire answers directly into the original ILPA and AIMA template format. If your questionnaire was created from a standard ILPA or AIMA template, you can export your answers back into that same template layout — ready to share with LPs and investors — without manually reformatting the document.

This article walks through how standard template detection works, how to export using the Original Format option, which answer types are supported, and what happens if you edit a questionnaire after it's been created from a standard template.

How Standard Template Detection Works

When a new questionnaire instance (QI) is created from a Centrl-managed ILPA or AIMA template, it is automatically flagged as a standard-template questionnaire. This flag is what makes the Original Format export option available for that questionnaire.

Note: This detection only applies to newly created questionnaires. Questionnaires created before this feature was enabled are not automatically flagged, even if they originated from an ILPA or AIMA template.

Exporting Your Answers in Original Format

To export your completed answers into the original ILPA/AIMA template:

  1. Navigate to your completed (or in-progress) questionnaire in Response Management.
  2. Open the Export modal.
  3. If your questionnaire was created from a standard ILPA/AIMA template and hasn't been structurally edited, the Original Format option is enabled and available for selection.
  4. Select Original Format.
  5. An informational banner appears, letting you know that some formatting adjustments may still be required after export.
  6. Complete the export. Your answers are placed into the corresponding fields of the original ILPA/AIMA template.

What Gets Included in the Export

The following answer types are supported and will be mapped into the correct fields of the original template:

  • Open-text answers — placed into the corresponding text fields.
  • Checkbox answers (single and multi-select checkboxes) — mapped to the correct checkbox fields.
  • Table answers — exported as structured data so tables render correctly in the original template's table layout, including tables with varying row counts.
  • Multiselect answers — all selected values are included and formatted to match the original template's expected format for multi-value fields.

If a question was left unanswered, the corresponding field in the exported document is simply left blank — it will not cause an export error.

What's Not Included in the Export

A few types of content are intentionally left out of the Original Format export in this release:

  • Follow-ups and sub-questions are not included.
  • Document attachments, images, and other rich media attached to an answer are not included — only the text portion of the answer is exported. An inline note in the exported document flags where content was omitted, and the Export modal also warns you before you export.
  • Comments on questions or answers are not included in the export.

Editing a Standard Template Questionnaire

Because the Original Format export relies on your questionnaire matching the structure of the original ILPA/AIMA template, editing the questionnaire's structure can break that mapping. If you try to make a structural change to a standard-template questionnaire — adding or editing a question or section, arranging questions, or deleting a question, section, or subsection — you'll see a warning first.

  • If you select Cancel, no changes are made. The questionnaire remains linked to its standard template configuration, and Original Format export remains available.
  • If you select Continue, the edit proceeds, and the questionnaire is delinked from its Centrl Template configuration. Original Format export is then disabled for that questionnaire going forward.

Note: Once a questionnaire is delinked, it cannot be re-linked to Original Format export in this release. You can still export the questionnaire using Response360's standard export formats.

FAQs

Why don't I see the Original Format option for my questionnaire?

The Original Format option only appears for questionnaires created from a Centrl-managed ILPA or AIMA template with Formstack configuration. If your questionnaire wasn't created from one of these standard templates, use one of Response360's standard export formats instead.

What happens if I edit an answer after exporting?

Editing an answer's content (without changing the questionnaire's structure — adding, deleting, or rearranging questions or sections) does not disable Original Format export. The warning and delinking behavior is triggered by structural edits, not by answering or updating individual responses.

Can I get Original Format export back after my questionnaire has been delinked?

Not in this release. Once a standard-template questionnaire is delinked (because a structural edit was made and you chose to continue), Original Format export is disabled for that questionnaire going forward. You can still use Response360's standard export formats.

Will my attachments and images come through in the export?

No. Original Format export includes only the text portion of your answers. Attachments, images, and other rich media are not included, and an inline note in the exported document flags where content was left out.

Are my comments included in the export?

No, comments are not included in the Original Format export.

Which templates support Original Format export right now?

In this release, Original Format export is available for questionnaires created from Centrl-managed ILPA and AIMA templates only.
